What You See Is What You Sweat is a 1991 album by Aretha Franklin blending new jack swing and house, released on Arista Records on July 2 of that year. The production roster included Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Luther Vandross, Narada Michael Walden, and Michel Legrand. The album featured a cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Everyday People," the duet "Ever Changing Times" with Michael McDonald, and "Doctor's Orders" with Luther Vandross. It reached only number 153 on the Billboard 200 and number 28 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, making it her lowest-charting Arista album. The record was her first release issued in the Nielsen SoundScan era of sales tracking.
