"The Tender, the Moving, the Swinging Aretha Franklin" is the 1962 studio album by Aretha Franklin, released on Columbia Records on August 13, 1962. Robert Mersey produced, arranged, and conducted the sessions, which were recorded at Columbia Recording Studio in New York City in April and May 1962 and span jazz, soul, and traditional pop. The track list collects standards and jazz interpretations such as "Try a Little Tenderness," "God Bless the Child," and "Lover Come Back to Me." The album reached number 69 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart and remained there for eight weeks, making it Franklin's first album to achieve any commercial success even though it did not produce a hit single. AllMusic gave it two out of five stars and The Rolling Stone Album Guide rated it 2.5 stars, and the record predated her later Atlantic Records breakthrough.
