Aretha is a 1980 soul, funk, and pop album by Aretha Franklin, released on Arista Records on September 30 of that year. It was her first album for Arista after twelve years with Atlantic, with production by Chuck Jackson and Arif Mardin and contributions from David Foster, David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather, and saxophonists Michael Brecker and David Sanborn. The lead single "United Together" was joined by a cover of the Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" and "Come to Me." The album reached number 47 on the Billboard 200. It also reached number 6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It began the Arista partnership with Clive Davis that would guide the next phase of Franklin's career.
