"I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You" is a 1967 album by Aretha Franklin, released on March 10, 1967, as her first record under her contract with Atlantic Records after leaving Columbia. The Southern soul album was produced by Jerry Wexler, with Rick Hall producing the title track. It included her chart-topping cover of Otis Redding's "Respect," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, along with the title song "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)," which peaked at number nine. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, also hitting number 36 on the UK Albums Chart, and it was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1967 with sales approaching two million copies. Regarded as Franklin's commercial breakthrough, it ranked number 13 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the greatest albums of all time and number one on the magazine's 2012 "Women in Rock: 50 Essential Albums."
