"Soft and Beautiful" by Aretha Franklin, released in April 1969 on Columbia Records, gathered soul and R&B performances from sessions recorded years earlier. Clyde Otis produced the album, drawn from recordings made July 9 to 16, 1964, when Franklin was 22 years old. The album reached number 29 on Billboard's R&B chart, with no Billboard 200 peak listed. Its ten tracks include "Only the Lonely," "My Coloring Book," and "People" from Funny Girl, and it stood as her last album on Columbia before she moved to Atlantic Records. Author Mark Bego praised it as "the most consistently paced album of her later Columbia years."
