By the Numbers
Spinout is the soundtrack to the 1966 racing film, combining nine film songs with three stronger bonus recordings, and Presley wrote none of its twelve tracks. The most notable is his cover of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow Is a Long Time," a recording Dylan later named among his favorite covers of his own work. The other bonus tracks were "Down in the Alley" and Kui Lee's "I'll Remember You." George Stoll oversaw the music for RCA Victor.
"Spinout" is the 1966 rock and roll soundtrack album by Elvis Presley, made for the racing comedy film of the same name. RCA Victor released it on October 31, 1966, with George Stoll producing sessions at Radio Recorders in Hollywood and backing from The Jordanaires, Scotty Moore, Floyd Cramer, and D.J. Fontana. Notable tracks include the title song "Spinout," "All That I Am," "I'll Remember You," and a cover of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow Is a Long Time." Three non-film songs were added as special bonus tracks because RCA and Presley's manager had concluded that records built only from soundtrack and session leftovers could no longer sell as strongly as before. The album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart.
