From Memphis to Vegas / From Vegas to Memphis was Presley's first double album and his first official live album, pairing a live disc from his 1969 International Hotel residency in Las Vegas with a studio disc, "Back in Memphis," cut at American Sound Studio. Presley wrote none of the material, which mixes his own early hits with contemporary covers such as Mac Davis's "In the Ghetto" and Mark James's "Suspicious Minds." The live disc was produced by Felton Jarvis and the studio disc by Chips Moman. It marked his return to live performance after nearly a decade in film.
"From Memphis to Vegas / From Vegas to Memphis" is a 1969 double album by Elvis Presley released on RCA Victor that blends rock, soul, country, and pop across live and studio recordings. The studio half, produced by Chips Moman at American Sound Studio in Memphis, introduced new material including "Suspicious Minds" and the recent hit "In the Ghetto," alongside a cover of the Bee Gees' "Words." The live half, produced by Felton Jarvis, captured classics such as "Hound Dog," "All Shook Up," and "Can't Help Falling in Love," backed by a band featuring guitarist James Burton, bassist Jerry Scheff, and drummer Ron Tutt with The Imperials and The Sweet Inspirations. It was Presley's first double album, his first official live album, and his first live performances since a 1961 benefit concert in Hawaii. The record peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold on December 13, 1969.
