Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old) is a focused country concept album from 1971, with fragments of the old song "I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago" stitched between tracks. Presley wrote none of the twelve songs, drawing on the country and honky-tonk canon: Willie Nelson's "Funny How Time Slips Away," Bob Wills's "Faded Love," and Bill Monroe's "Little Cabin on the Hill." He recorded his vocals live with the band at RCA Studio B in Nashville. Felton Jarvis produced.
"Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old)" is Elvis Presley's 1971 country album on RCA Victor, produced by Felton Jarvis and spanning bluegrass, honky tonk, Western swing, rockabilly, and countrypolitan styles. The lead single paired "I Really Don't Want to Know" with "There Goes My Everything," with the A-side reaching number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Adult Contemporary chart. Session work came from guitarist James Burton, pianist David Briggs, and harmonica player Charlie McCoy, with backing vocals from The Imperials Quartet and The Jordanaires. The album peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and number six in the United Kingdom, and it was certified Gold by the RIAA on December 1, 1977, selling over one million copies worldwide. Conceived as a unified country project, it used snippets of "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago" as bridges between tracks, a departure from Presley's usual practice of assembling unrelated songs.
