Love Letters from Elvis was assembled from leftover material recorded during the productive June 1970 Nashville sessions, the third album drawn from those dates, and Presley wrote none of its eleven songs. The title track is a re-recording of his 1966 hit "Love Letters," a rare instance of Presley revisiting a past single in the studio. The rest is a mix of soft rock, country, and pop by various writers. Felton Jarvis handled production, mixing, and overdubs for RCA Victor.
"Love Letters from Elvis" is a 1971 album by Elvis Presley on RCA Victor, produced by Felton Jarvis and drawing on soft rock, pop, country, and gospel. The title track was a rare instance of Presley re-recording a past hit in the studio, having first released the song as a single in 1966. The album yielded the single "Life" backed with "Only Believe," which reached number 53 on the US Billboard singles chart, while "Heart of Rome" appeared as a B-side. Backing musicians included guitarist James Burton, pianist David Briggs, bassist Norbert Putnam, and harmony vocalist Charlie Hodge. Compiled from leftovers of Presley's marathon June 1970 Nashville sessions, the album was critically panned and failed to crack the top 20 of the Billboard album charts, though it reached number 12 on the US Top Country Albums chart and number seven in the UK.
