Speedway was Presley's final conventional soundtrack album, after which his late-1960s films cut back on songs, and he wrote none of its twelve tracks. It is notable for "Your Groovy Self," a Lee Hazlewood song performed solo by co-star Nancy Sinatra, the only lead vocal by another artist on an Elvis album. The film songs came from writers including Joy Byers and the team of Sid Wayne and Ben Weisman. Jeff Alexander oversaw the music for RCA Victor.
"Speedway" is Elvis Presley's 1968 rock and pop soundtrack album for the film of the same name, released on RCA Victor and produced by Jeff Alexander. The title track "Speedway" was joined by "Your Time Hasn't Come Yet, Baby" and "There Ain't Nothing Like a Song," a duet with Nancy Sinatra whose own session was produced by Lee Hazlewood. Backing came from The Jordanaires along with session players including guitarist Tiny Timbrell and pianist Floyd Cramer. The album peaked at number 82 on the Billboard 200 and sold fewer than 100,000 copies, marking a sharp commercial decline for Presley. It was the seventeenth and final soundtrack album of his career, and its poor showing effectively ended the soundtrack formula that had defined his 1960s film work.
