Raised on Rock / For Ol' Times Sake was recorded at Stax Studios in Memphis and at Presley's Palm Springs home in 1973, and he wrote none of its ten songs. Mark James, who wrote "Suspicious Minds," contributed three tracks including the title song, while Leiber and Stoller supplied "If You Don't Come Back" and "Three Corn Patches" and Tony Joe White wrote "For Ol' Times Sake." Presley co-produced with Felton Jarvis. The title single reached number 41 on the Hot 100.
"Raised on Rock / For Ol' Times Sake" is the nineteenth studio album by Elvis Presley, released October 1, 1973 on RCA Victor and blending rock, R&B, funk, and country. Elvis Presley produced the record with Felton Jarvis, recording at Stax Studios in Memphis in July 1973 and finishing at his Palm Springs residence that September. The title track, paired with "For Ol' Times Sake," reached number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 42 on the country chart, and the album also featured the ballad cover "Are You Sincere." The title song drew attention for its unusual lyrical perspective, with Presley singing about discovering rock and roll through artists who were actually his contemporaries. It was one of the few Presley albums that failed to chart in the United Kingdom, and a 2007 Follow That Dream special edition later expanded it across two discs with numerous alternate takes.
