By the Numbers
Roustabout is the soundtrack to the 1964 carnival film and was the last Presley soundtrack to top the Billboard album chart. Presley wrote none of its eleven songs; Leiber and Stoller contributed "Little Egypt," while Joy Byers and the team of Bill Giant, Bernie Baum, and Florence Kaye supplied much of the rest. Joseph Lilley produced for RCA Victor, with Scotty Moore and Floyd Cramer among the session players. It was Presley's final number-one album until the 1973 Aloha From Hawaii broadcast.
"Roustabout" is a 1964 soundtrack album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor on October 20 as the music for the 1964 film of the same name and his ninth soundtrack album. Joseph Lilley produced the pop and rock and roll set, recorded at Radio Recorders in Hollywood across sessions in March and April 1964. The eleven songs include "Little Egypt," "Poison Ivy League," and "There's a Brand New Day on the Horizon." The album reached number 1 on Billboard's Top LPs chart, making it Presley's final soundtrack to top the chart and his last number one album until 1973's "Aloha from Hawaii: Via Satellite." It was certified Gold by the RIAA on May 20, 1988, and four of its tracks later appeared on the 1995 compilation "The Essential 60s Masters II."
