By the Numbers
Kissin' Cousins is the soundtrack to the 1964 film, recorded quickly in Nashville, and Presley wrote none of its twelve songs. Much of the material came from the team of Bill Giant, Bernie Baum, and Florence Kaye, who wrote five of the tracks. The single "Kissin' Cousins" reached number 12 on the Hot 100. The album reflected the increasingly formulaic nature of Presley's mid-1960s movie work.
"Kissin' Cousins" is a 1964 soundtrack album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor on April 2 as the music for the 1964 film of the same name and his eighth soundtrack album. Gene Nelson and Fred Karger produced the pop and rock and roll record, which was recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville to control costs after budget overruns on an earlier project. Key tracks include the title song "Kissin' Cousins," "Smokey Mountain Boy," and "There's Gold in the Mountains." The title track was issued as a single and reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 10 in Britain, while its B-side, "It Hurts Me," charted at number 29 and earned a gold record. The album peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Top LPs chart.
