Data Insight

Good Times was compiled from Presley's 1973 Stax sessions and he wrote none of its ten songs. The material spans country and soft rock, with Tony Joe White's "I've Got a Thing About You Baby" and the ballad "My Boy" both becoming singles. Other writers include Jerry Reed, Dennis Linde, and the Bryant team. Felton Jarvis produced for RCA. The album topped the Cashbox country chart but signaled Presley's slipping mainstream sales.

"Good Times" is the twentieth studio album by Elvis Presley, released March 20, 1974 on RCA and rooted in country and soft rock. Felton Jarvis produced the album, drawing on sessions held at Stax Studios in Memphis in July and December 1973 and combining new recordings with two leftover tracks. The single "I've Got a Thing About You Baby" reached number 4 on the country chart and number 39 pop, while "My Boy" topped the Adult Contemporary chart and hit number 14 country and number 20 pop. The track list included covers of contemporary hits such as "Spanish Eyes" and "She Wears My Ring," and critics regarded the set as typical 1970s Elvis material. The album charted low at release and became his first to reach cutout bins, though it reached number 1 on the Cashbox country albums chart and original stickered copies remain rare among collectors.
