The Visitor Songwriting Credits by Neil Young

Neil Young wrote all ten songs on The Visitor, his second album backed by Promise of the Real, the band led by Willie Nelson's sons Lukas and Micah Nelson. Where the earlier The Monsanto Years held to a single protest theme, this record is deliberately eclectic, moving from the sarcastic opener "Already Great," a direct answer to the "Make America Great Again" slogan, through Latin-tinged horns on "Carnival," spare folk on "Almost Always," and the sprawling ten-minute closer "Forever." The lyrics are openly topical, with Young writing as an immigrant outsider looking at the United States during the early Trump presidency and reaffirming the anthemic "Children of Destiny." Recorded loosely with the young band across sessions at Shangri-La and Capitol studios, it pairs Young's blunt political writing with the loosest, most stylistically varied playing of the partnership.
