Something for the Rest of Us is a more reflective, socially aware record, and it spreads production across Tim Palmer, John Fields, Butch Vig, and Rob Cavallo. John Rzeznik writes the singles "Home" and "As I Am," while Robby Takac contributes his usual handful of tracks. It debuted in the Billboard top 10 but did not match the band's earlier sales.
Something for the Rest of Us took two years to finish, recorded at GCR Audio in Buffalo and at Paramount and the Ark in Los Angeles with Tim Palmer, then reopened in January 2010 when John Rzeznik decided it was not good enough. Butch Vig, John Fields, Paul David Hager and Rob Cavallo all worked on it before Warner Bros. put it out in August 2010, four years after the last record. It reached number seven on the Billboard 200, and 'Home' went to radio in June ahead of the album.
