Boxes is the first Goo Goo Dolls album made as an official duo of John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, following drummer Mike Malinin's 2013 departure. It is heavily co-written, with Rzeznik working alongside Gregg Wattenberg, Drew Pearson, and Derek Fuhrmann on a contemporary pop-rock set led by the single "So Alive." Takac again contributes a couple of his own songs.
Boxes came out on Warner Bros. on May 6, 2016, the first Goo Goo Dolls album recorded as a duo of John Rzeznik and Robby Takac after drummer Mike Malinin was let go in 2013. Drew Pearson, Gregg Wattenberg and Derek Fuhrmann produced across studios in Hollywood, New York and Buffalo, and most of the writing is shared with them. It debuted and peaked at number 27 on the Billboard 200 on 15,000 first-week copies, the band's first album since Dizzy Up the Girl to miss the top ten. 'So Alive' and 'Over and Over' were the singles.
