Four in Blue is the eleventh studio album by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, released in 1969 on Tamla Records. The album centers on 'Baby, Baby Don't Cry,' one of the Miracles' most emotionally powerful singles, a sweeping orchestral soul number that reached the Top 10 on the pop charts and became one of their signature songs. 'Doggone Right' provided another charting single, with Robinson and his co-writers Warren Moore and Al Cleveland delivering a breezy, confident contrast to the album's weightier moments. The record captures Robinson and the group in a transitional moment, the psychedelic late 60s were pushing soul music toward a more experimental edge, yet Robinson's melodic instincts kept the Miracles grounded in the romantic, accessible tradition he had built. Tightly written and produced by Robinson himself, Four in Blue demonstrates the sustained creative output he maintained throughout the Miracles' peak years.
