Data Insight

Away We a Go-Go featured production from across Motown's stable (Smokey Robinson, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Frank Wilson, Norman Whitfield, Ivy Jo Hunter, and Mickey Gentile), making it one of the most producer-diverse Miracles albums. The 12-track set blended originals with covers of songs by Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick, and The Temptations. "(Come 'Round Here) I'm the One You Need" reached #17 on the Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B chart.

Away We a Go-Go is the seventh studio album by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, released in 1966 on Tamla Records. The album followed the commercial breakthrough of Going to a Go-Go and continued Robinson's reign as both the group's lead vocalist and primary songwriter, with nearly every track penned by Robinson in collaboration with fellow Miracles members Warren Moore and Marvin Tarplin. 'Whole Lot of Shakin' in My Heart (Since I Met You)' became one of the album's standout performances, showcasing the group's tight vocal interplay and Robinson's increasingly sophisticated approach to romantic soul. '(Come 'Round Here) I'm the One You Need' crossed over to the pop charts and demonstrated the Miracles' ability to blend R&B grit with mainstream pop appeal. Robinson had by this point assumed full production duties, giving the album a unified sonic identity that reflected his total creative control over the Miracles' sound.
