Hi...We're the Miracles is the debut studio album by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, released in 1961 on Tamla Records. The record introduces Robinson as both a natural vocalist and a gifted songwriter in the early Motown mold, most of the album's material was written by Robinson alone or with fellow Miracles members, establishing the self-authored approach he would sustain for his entire career. The hit 'Bad Girl,' co-written with Ronnie White, had been released a year earlier and gave the group their first national chart exposure. 'Way Over There' and 'Depend on Me' further showcased Robinson's instinct for melodic, emotionally direct soul songwriting at a moment when Motown's signature sound was still taking shape. The album is a foundational document of early Detroit soul and an early example of the songwriting credibility Robinson would build across six decades.
