By the Numbers
Going to a Go-Go is the seventh studio album by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, released in October 1965 on Tamla/Motown and produced by William 'Smokey' Robinson and William 'Mickey' Stevenson. The album is one of the defining documents of mid-1960s soul music, featuring the timeless classics 'The Tracks of My Tears,' 'My Girl Has Gone,' 'Ooo Baby Baby,' and the title track. 'The Tracks of My Tears' in particular is widely considered one of the greatest songs ever written, with Robinson's heartbroken falsetto and the Miracles' exquisite harmonies creating a perfect miniature of emotional devastation. The album reached number eight on the Billboard 200 and produced multiple hit singles that established Motown's dominance of American pop radio. Going to a Go-Go stands as Smokey Robinson's masterpiece of his Miracles era and one of the cornerstones of soul music's golden age.
