Lovesexy is the ninth studio album by Prince, released in May 1988 on Paisley Park Records / Warner Bros. Records and produced entirely by Prince. The album was conceived as a spiritual companion and counterweight to the darker Black Album he had withdrawn from release, offering a message of divine love and joy in contrast to that record's nihilism. Structured as a single continuous piece on CD, its tracks indivisible, Lovesexy is one of Prince's most idiosyncratic works, combining funk, soul, gospel, and chamber pop in a meditation on faith, sexuality, and transcendence. While less commercially successful than Sign 'O' the Times, the album produced the UK number-one single 'I Wish U Heaven' and a celebrated concert tour. Lovesexy remains one of the most spiritually ambitious and structurally experimental records in Prince's catalog.
