Released exclusively on the Tidal streaming platform on September 7, 2015, before a CD release on September 15, HITNRUN Phase One was Prince's thirty-eighth studio album and one of the earliest high-profile exclusive releases on the Jay-Z-owned service, recorded at Paisley Park between 2013 and 2015. Prince and Joshua Welton shared production duties throughout, and the pair co-wrote most tracks, with Prince writing 'This Could B Us' and 'Fallinlove2nite' alone. The thirty-eight-minute album spans R&B, soul, and electronic genres, featuring guest appearances from Rita Ora, Judith Hill, and Lianne La Havas. Critical reception was sharply polarized, averaging a Metacritic score of 53/100 from sixteen reviews: Entertainment Weekly awarded an A while Pitchfork scored it 4.5/10, with the widest critical variance of any Prince album in years. Commercially it peaked at number 48 on the Billboard 200 and number 4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
