Diamonds and Pearls is the eleventh studio album by Prince and the New Power Generation, released in October 1991 on Paisley Park Records / Warner Bros. Records and produced by Prince. The album marked Prince's return to more accessible pop and R&B songwriting following the dense experimentation of his late-1980s work, and it rewarded him commercially with one of his biggest hits since Purple Rain. The title track and 'Cream' both reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and 'Insatiable' became a classic slow jam that showcased the warm chemistry between Prince and his new backing band. The album debuted in the top five in multiple countries and sold over four million copies worldwide. Diamonds and Pearls is a joyful, expansive record that announced a new creative chapter while reaffirming Prince's instinct for irresistible pop melody.
