Dirty Mind is the third studio album by Prince, released in October 1980 on Warner Bros. Records and produced entirely by Prince. Widely regarded as the album on which Prince found his true artistic voice, Dirty Mind stripped down the production to a raw, synth-driven new wave funk sound that was startlingly original for its time. Songs like 'Head,' 'Sister,' and the title track pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable in mainstream pop music with their explicit sexual content, while the anti-war ballad 'Partyup' demonstrated a political dimension alongside the provocation. The album received ecstatic critical reviews and helped Prince build a cult following that would translate into massive commercial success on his next records. Dirty Mind is now recognized as the record that transformed the direction of funk and R&B music.
