By the Numbers
Bébé le Strange is a band-written album with a tight authorship core. Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, and Sue Ennis wrote seven of the ten songs together as a trio, so their three names carry most of the record. The exceptions are personal: Nancy Wilson wrote 'Silver Wheels' and 'Raised on You' alone, Ann Wilson wrote 'Sweet Darlin'' alone, and the departing Roger Fisher retains a co-write on the title track from before his exit. In the composer column the sisters appear under their full legal names, Ann Dustin Wilson and Nancy Lamoureux Wilson.
Bébé le Strange is the fifth studio album by Heart, released on February 13, 1980 on Epic Records. It is the first Heart album recorded without founding guitarist Roger Fisher, who left the band months before the sessions, reducing the group to a quintet of Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Howard Leese, Steve Fossen, and Michael Derosier. The record was cut at Kaye-Smith Studios in Seattle and produced by Mike Flicker, Howard Leese, and 'Connie,' a shared pseudonym for the Wilson sisters and their writing partner Sue Ennis. The core songwriting runs through Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, and Sue Ennis, who wrote most of the album as a trio. It reached number five on the Billboard 200, was certified Gold by the RIAA, and produced the top-40 single 'Even It Up,' which featured the Tower of Power horn section.
