The Joshua Tree Songwriting Credits by U2

Credit on The Joshua Tree splits cleanly. Music goes to U2 as a band, every lyric to Bono, and the liner notes name him as the album's sole lyricist. Because the music share is collective, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. hold a writer's stake in "With or Without You" and "Where the Streets Have No Name" next to Bono and the Edge. Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois shaped an enormous amount of what you actually hear, Eno on keyboards and DX7 programming, Lanois on tambourine, Omnichord and extra guitar, and neither took a writing credit for any of it. On later U2 records the producers would start appearing in the writing line. Here the boundary between producing a song and writing it was still drawn hard.
