By the Numbers
Dynasty spreads the writing wider than usual: Ace Frehley contributes three songs, more than on any earlier album, and sings them himself, while Paul Stanley brings in producer Vini Poncia and Desmond Child on the disco-leaning hit 'I Was Made for Lovin' You.' The album's one cover, the Rolling Stones' '2,000 Man,' sung by Frehley, is the clearest non-band moment on a record where the founders shared more of the spotlight.
Dynasty is the seventh studio album by Kiss, released in May 1979 after each member had released a solo album in 1978. Produced by Vini Poncia, it pushed the band toward a more polished, pop- and disco-influenced sound, most clearly on the international hit 'I Was Made for Lovin' You.' Although billed as a full-band album, Peter Criss played drums on only one track, with session drummer Anton Fig handling the rest. Ace Frehley took a larger writing role than usual and sang lead on three songs, including a cover of the Rolling Stones' '2,000 Man.' A platinum seller, Dynasty was a commercial success but signaled growing tensions within the lineup.
