By the Numbers
Revenge reunites the band with producer Bob Ezrin, and his name returns to the writing credits on much of the album alongside Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Returning guitarist Vinnie Vincent co-writes three songs, and the cover 'God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II,' from Russ Ballard, is reworked by the band. The closing 'Carr Jam 1981,' written by Eric Carr, serves as a tribute to the late drummer.
Revenge is the sixteenth studio album by Kiss, released in May 1992 and a deliberate return to a heavier, darker sound after the polished pop metal of the late 1980s. Produced by Bob Ezrin, who had helmed Destroyer, it was the band's first full album with drummer Eric Singer following the death of Eric Carr, whose final drum part appears on the instrumental 'Carr Jam 1981.' Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons wrote most of the album, with returning collaborator Vinnie Vincent and others, and the record includes the hit 'God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II.' A commercial success that reached the US top ten, Revenge restored the band's hard rock credibility.
