Monster, like Sonic Boom before it, keeps the writing entirely in-house: Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons split most of it, with Tommy Thayer co-writing on more than half the tracks and earning a lead vocal on 'Outta This World.' Eric Singer sings one song. With no outside writers and no covers, it is a fully band-authored record and the closing studio statement of the catalog.
Monster is the twentieth studio album by Kiss, released in October 2012 and the band's most recent studio album. Produced again by Paul Stanley, it continues the stripped-down, throwback hard rock approach of Sonic Boom, recorded by the same lineup of Stanley, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer. Stanley and Simmons wrote the album with Thayer and Singer, keeping the writing inside the band, and the lead vocals rotate among the members. The album reached the top three of the Billboard 200 and closes out the band's recording career to date.
