Animalize is the album where Paul Stanley took the wheel, producing it and writing or co-writing most of side one, often with outside hitmakers like Desmond Child and Jean Beauvoir. Animalize is the twelfth studio album by Kiss, released in September 1984 and one of the band's biggest sellers of the makeup-free era. Produced largely by Paul Stanley, who took the lead while Gene Simmons was busy with outside projects, it features new lead guitarist Mark St. John, whose tenure was cut short by illness. The album leans into a polished, hook-heavy hard rock sound, anchored by the hit 'Heaven's on Fire,' co-written by Stanley and Desmond Child. A platinum success, Animalize kept the band's 1980s commercial revival rolling.
