By the Numbers
The Offspring's self-titled debut was written almost entirely by frontman Dexter Holland, who handled lead vocals and the bulk of the songwriting while Noodles played guitar and Greg K. played bass. Thom Wilson produced the record, beginning a working relationship that would continue through Ignition and Smash. The original 1989 pressing on Nemesis Records was a tiny run that the band sold slowly by hand, years before their commercial breakthrough.
The Offspring cut their debut with Thom Wilson at South Coast Recording in Santa Ana over the summer of 1989, and Nemesis Records released it that October. It went out of print for years and only came back once Smash had made the band famous, reissued by Nitro and Epitaph in 1995 with new cover art. Dexter Holland is credited as Keith Holland on the original pressing, and he wrote everything here except 'Beheaded,' a co-write with James Lilja. Since 2001 the closing track 'Kill the President' has been pulled from reissues and replaced by four seconds of silence, and it does not appear on the streaming versions at all.
