Otra Nota is an interpreter's record, not a songwriter's. Marc Anthony wrote none of the eight songs; his role is lead vocalist, while Sergio George produced, arranged, and shaped the whole album's sound. The writing credits belong to a spread of Latin composers and standards. 'Palabras del Alma' comes from Venezuelan singer Ilan Chester, 'Hasta Que Te Conocí' is a Juan Gabriel bolero, and 'Make It with You' is a Spanish-flavored salsa cover of the David Gates song made famous by Bread, so three of the eight tracks are covers of older material. The remaining songs were supplied by working salsa and bolero writers including Nelson Frank and Jaime Gutiérrez, Felipe Muñiz, Luis Díaz, and George himself on '¿Juego o Amor?'. The composer column therefore carries the legal names of these outside writers throughout, with Anthony's name absent from every writing credit.

Otra Nota is the debut salsa album by Marc Anthony, born Marco Antonio Muñiz, released January 26, 1993 on RMM Records. It marked his turn from freestyle and dance-pop toward tropical music, and it was produced and arranged by Sergio George, whose modern, trombone-heavy sound defined the record. Anthony is the interpreter here rather than the writer: he sings lead across all eight tracks while the songs come from established composers and salsa arrangers, several of them covers of earlier hits. The material ranges from Ilan Chester's 'Palabras del Alma' and Juan Gabriel's bolero 'Hasta Que Te Conocí' to a salsa reworking of Bread's 'Make It with You.' Backed by a full RMM session band, the album reached number two on Billboard's Tropical Albums chart and its singles charted on Hot Latin Songs, establishing Anthony as one of the leading young salseros of the 1990s and earning him Tropical New Artist honors at the 1994 Billboard Latin Music and Lo Nuestro Awards.
