Data Insight

This is the crossover record where Marc Anthony is a genuine co-author, not just an interpreter. He co-wrote his two signature hits, 'I Need to Know' and 'You Sang to Me,' with Cory Rooney, and the pair also wrote and produced both, the tightest writer-producer partnership on the album. Anthony's pen appears again alongside Walter Afanasieff on 'Am I the Only One,' 'My Baby You,' and 'Don't Let Me Leave,' and within the Rodney Jerkins and LaShawn Daniels writing camp on 'She's Been Good to Me.' Where his birth name is documented, his composer credit reads Marco Antonio Muniz. A cluster of songs are outside compositions he only sings: 'When I Dream at Night' (Dan Shea, Robin Thicke), 'Remember Me' (Jonnie Most, Denise Rich), 'Love Is All' (Arnie Roman), and the salsa closer 'Da la Vuelta' (Emilio Estefan, Kike Santander).

Marc Anthony is the self-titled fourth studio album and first English-language album by Marc Anthony, released on September 14, 1999, by Columbia Records. Already a salsa star, he crossed into mainstream English-language pop here, pairing radio-ready ballads and R&B production with the accordion-flecked Latin textures that were his signature. The album debuted in the top ten of the Billboard 200 and produced two of his biggest crossover hits, 'I Need to Know,' which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and 'You Sang to Me,' which reached number two after appearing on the Runaway Bride soundtrack. It went on to sell more than four million copies worldwide and was certified triple platinum in the United States. Marc Anthony co-wrote much of the record with longtime collaborator Cory Rooney and with Walter Afanasieff, and closed the set with Spanish-language versions and the salsa track 'Da la Vuelta,' making it the record that carried him from Latin stardom into the English-language mainstream.
