Data Insight

Foreign Tongues is a Jagger-Richards record almost end to end. Twelve of its fourteen tracks carry the partnership, ten of those with no other writer attached, and the two exceptions are covers rather than outside songwriters brought in to supply material. Where anyone else appears it is as a co-writer alongside the pair: Matt Clifford on 'Never Wanna Lose You' and 'Covered in You,' producer Andrew Watt on 'Side Effects' and 'Back in Your Life.' That pattern, a long-running core partnership plus the occasional co-write with someone already in the room, is what the band's authorship has looked like since Aftermath in 1966, and sixty years later it has not moved.

Foreign Tongues is the Rolling Stones' twenty-fifth British studio album, released on July 10, 2026 through Polydor and Capitol Records and produced by Andrew Watt as the follow-up to Hackney Diamonds. The band announced it by posting street-poster photographs from twenty countries with the title written in a different language in each, which is where the album takes its name. The record pairs new Jagger-Richards originals, led by the singles 'In the Stars' and 'Jealous Lover,' with covers of Amy Winehouse's 'You Know I'm No Good' and Chuck Berry's 'Beautiful Delilah,' and brings in guests including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith, Bruno Mars and Chad Smith. 'Hit Me in the Head' carries a Charlie Watts drum take from a 2021 Los Angeles session recorded shortly before his death.
