Data Insight

The Rolling Stones, Now! captures the band mid-transition: of its twelve tracks, the majority are still covers of American R&B and rock and roll sources, including Chuck Berry ('You Can't Catch Me'), Willie Dixon ('Little Red Rooster'), and Bo Diddley ('Mona'). Against that backdrop, the four Jagger/Richards and Nanker Phelge originals, most notably 'Heart of Stone,' signal a writing partnership beginning to assert itself. Producer Andrew Loog Oldham pushed the band toward self-composed material, and Brian Jones colors the record with slide guitar, harmonica, and electric guitar. The album still leans on interpretation rather than authorship, but the original-songs ratio is climbing.

A US-exclusive studio album released February 13, 1965 on London Records. Assembles tracks from UK singles and EP releases alongside album tracks, mostly covers. Includes 'Heart of Stone,' one of the first Jagger-Richards originals to chart highly in the US.
