By the Numbers
The Noble Rot continued the Spider One / Greg Johnson writing partnership from New Wave, with Spider One writing all original lyrics and Greg Johnson co-composing all music. The sole cover is 'We Got the Beat' (track 9), originally written by Charlotte Caffey and recorded by The Go-Go's in 1982. The bonus track (11) is a 2020 re-arrangement of 'When Worlds Collide,' carrying its original 1999 songwriting credits.
Cleopatra released The Noble Rot in August 2020, and reviewers noted it sits closer to industrial electronica than to metal. Spider One and Greg Johnson wrote every song on it together bar two: the Go-Go's cover "We Got the Beat," written by Charlotte Caffey, and a 2020 rebuild of "When Worlds Collide" that keeps its 1999 credits.
