New Wave marks Greg Johnson's debut as Powerman 5000's primary musical collaborator and co-producer, a role he retained through The Noble Rot (2020). Spider One wrote all lyrics. Music is split per track between Spider One, Johnson and guitarist Ryan Hernandez, and Spider One has no music credit at all on half the record, including the singles "Footsteps and Voices" and "Sid Vicious in a Dress," which Johnson wrote alone.
Pavement Entertainment released New Wave in October 2017, the first Powerman 5000 record built around guitarist and co-producer Greg Johnson. Spider One wrote every lyric on it but has no music credit at all on five of the ten songs, including the singles "Footsteps and Voices" and "Sid Vicious in a Dress," which Johnson wrote by himself.
