Destroy What You Enjoy marked a notable genre shift for Powerman 5000 toward punk rock influences, with a nearly entirely new lineup surrounding Spider One. Spider One wrote all lyrics; all music is credited to Powerman 5000 as a collective. Mudrock returned from the band's debut to produce. Guest Scott Gilman provided Hammond organ. Tracks 1 and 11 ('Construction of the Masses Pt.1/2') are bookend interludes under 30 seconds each. Track 13 'Heroes and Villains (Live)' is a live recording whose origin, PM5K original or cover, could not be confirmed from available primary sources.
DRT Entertainment put this out in August 2006, and it was the first Powerman 5000 record with none of the Mega!! Kung Fu Radio through Transform lineup on it except Spider One. The turn toward punk rock split the fanbase, and the album has been off streaming services since DRT closed in 2009 still holding the rights.
