Data Insight

Nastradamus was rushed out just seven months after I Am..., assembled from bootleg-era leftovers plus quickly recorded new songs, and it is widely seen as Nas's weakest album. He still writes all of his own lyrics, but the patchy material and the pop-leaning single "You Owe Me" drew criticism that he had drifted from his strengths. His authorship is intact; the problem was the rushed circumstances rather than ghostwriting.

"Nastradamus" is the 1999 fourth studio album by Nas, an East Coast hip-hop and R&B record released only a month after he had originally planned, with new material added following bootlegging of the "I Am..." sessions. Production came from Dame Grease, L.E.S., Havoc, DJ Premier, and Timbaland. The title track and "You Owe Me" featuring Ginuwine served as singles, while "Come Get Me" was produced by DJ Premier and "Project Windows" featured Ronald Isley. The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, peaked at number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, sold over 232,000 copies in its first week, and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Reviews were mixed, and the record is often regarded as one of Nas's weaker efforts.
