Life Is Good is Nas's mature, reflective peak, much of it written around his divorce from Kelis, whose green wedding dress drapes across his knee on the cover. He likened it to Marvin Gaye's Here, My Dear, and he writes every introspective verse himself, on aging, fatherhood, and two decades in rap. Salaam Remi and No I.D. anchor the production, and the album earned a Grammy nomination while debuting at No. 1.
"Life Is Good" is the 2012 tenth studio album by Nas, a hip-hop record shaped by his divorce from Kelis and themes of maturation and middle age. Production came from No I.D., Salaam Remi, Swizz Beatz, the late Heavy D, and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. Singles included "Nasty," "The Don," "Daughters," and "Cherry Wine," the last featuring the late Amy Winehouse, with other guests including Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross, and Miguel. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, sold 149,000 copies in its first week, and was certified gold by the RIAA. It drew widespread critical acclaim with a Metacritic score of 81 across 30 reviews and earned a Best Rap Album Grammy nomination.
