Generations was notable as the first Journey album where all band members shared lead vocal duties, including Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, and Deen Castronovo, who each took lead on certain tracks. Steve Augeri was absent from this release. Produced by Kevin Elson with Mike Fraser engineering and mixing, the album peaked at #170 on the Billboard 200 and performed better internationally, reaching the top 20 in Japan. No singles charted on the Hot 100 and no RIAA certification was received.
Generations is the 2005 studio album by Journey, a rock and hard rock record and the first on which all band members shared lead vocal duties. Steve Augeri sang lead alongside Neal Schon on lead guitar, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass, and Deen Castronovo on drums, with Kevin Elson producing across three studios. The roughly 73-minute album was distributed free to fans at concerts before its commercial release. It peaked at number 170 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 20 in Japan and number 23 on the UK Independent Albums chart. Generations was the last Journey album to feature Steve Augeri, whose voice suffered from fatigue during this period, and the only one released by the now-defunct Sanctuary Records.
