By the Numbers
Arrival was the first Journey studio album recorded without Steve Perry, with Steve Augeri (who had been fronting the touring lineup since 1998) as lead vocalist. Produced and mixed by Kevin Shirley, the album peaked at #56 on the Billboard 200, well below the band's commercial peaks. No singles charted on the Hot 100; "All the Way" reached the Adult Contemporary chart only. The album was the first Journey release since 1977 not to receive at least RIAA Gold certification, reflecting the commercial decline that followed Perry's departure.
Arrival is the 2001 studio album by Journey, an arena rock record with hard rock influences that introduced lead vocalist Steve Augeri in place of Steve Perry and drummer Deen Castronovo in place of Steve Smith. Neal Schon on guitar, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, and Ross Valory on bass rounded out the lineup, with Kevin Shirley producing. The single "All the Way" spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and reached number 22, while "World Gone Wild" and "Nothin' Comes Close" were added for the US release. The album peaked at number 56 on the Billboard 200 and number 12 on the Top Internet Albums chart, becoming the first Journey album since 1977 to miss Gold certification from the RIAA. Arrival was the band's last album released under Columbia Records, their label since the 1975 debut.
