Freedom was Journey's first studio album in eleven years and the first produced by Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Narada Michael Walden jointly, a departure from the Kevin Shirley productions of 2001-2011. At 73 minutes across 15 tracks, it is the longest Journey studio album ever released. Bob Clearmountain and David Kalmusky handled mixing. The album peaked at #88 on the Billboard 200. Five singles preceded and followed the July 2022 release, including "The Way We Used to Be" and "United We Stand," but none charted on the Hot 100. Critics praised the musicianship but noted that the production and length worked against the album.
Freedom is the 2022 fifteenth studio album by Journey, a rock record released on BMG Rights Management after an 11-year gap from 2011's Eclipse. Arnel Pineda sang lead alongside Neal Schon on guitars and keyboards, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Randy Jackson on bass, and Narada Michael Walden on drums, with Schon, Cain, and Walden producing. The 15-track, roughly 73-minute set is the longest studio album in the band's history, with singles including "The Way We Used to Be," "You Got the Best of Me," "Let It Rain," "Don't Give Up on Us," and "United We Stand." The album peaked at number 88 on the Billboard 200, number 2 in Switzerland, and number 7 in Germany. Freedom was the first Journey album to feature Randy Jackson since 1986's Raised on Radio, whose original working title the new album borrowed.
