Eclipse continued Journey's partnership with Arnel Pineda and was co-produced by Kevin Shirley alongside Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, with David Kalmusky engineering and mixing. The album peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200 but sold fewer than 100,000 copies in the US, roughly one-eighth of Revelation's sales. No singles charted on the Hot 100; "Anything Is Possible" reached #21 on the Adult Contemporary chart. No RIAA certification was received, reflecting the steep commercial decline Journey's new material had experienced a decade removed from the Perry era.
Eclipse is the 2011 fourteenth studio album by Journey, a hard rock and arena rock record and the second with vocalist Arnel Pineda. The lineup of Pineda on lead vocals, Neal Schon on guitars, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass, and Deen Castronovo on drums recorded the album, which Kevin Shirley produced with Schon and Cain. Singles included "City of Hope," "Human Feel," and "Anything Is Possible," which reached number 21 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The album debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 with about 21,400 copies sold in its first week and entered the top 40 in five countries, though it sold roughly 100,000 copies overall. Eclipse was the last Journey album to feature bassist Ross Valory, and its lukewarm reception left the band skeptical about recording new material afterward.
