Does J Balvin write his own songs?
Yes, and his name turns up on nearly everything he puts out, though almost never by itself. All ten tracks on Colores list him as a writer alongside Alejandro Ramirez, the Medellin producer who works as Sky Rompiendo. On Vibras he is the one name that appears on all fourteen songs while Marco Masis (Tainy), Ramirez, Justin Quiles and Jesus Manuel Nieves Cortes rotate through the rest of the credit. He does hold a credit alone from time to time: "6 AM" lists Jose Alvaro Osorio Balvin as its only songwriter. The industry counts him as a writer too. BMI named him Contemporary Latin Songwriter of the Year in 2018, and the Billboard Latin Music Awards have nominated him for Songwriter of the Year.

The Authorship Story
Data Insight
J Balvin is credited on all 123 of his tracks, but the solo writing stops early. Nine of the ten songs he wrote by himself sit on the 2013 debut La Familia, one more is on Energía, and from Vibras in 2018 forward every track has at least one co-writer. Sky Rompiendo is the constant, on 52 tracks, more than a third of the catalogue and enough to read as a second author of the sound. Keityn appears on 29, with Tainy and O'Neill on 25 each. None of the 123 tracks has an undocumented writer, so the widening room is a choice the credits actually show rather than a gap in the data.

Creative Fingerprint
Balvin's name sits on the writing credit of virtually everything he releases and almost never sits there alone: he is the one constant across all fourteen Vibras credits, he shares every one of the ten Colores credits with Sky Rompiendo, and on an outside hit like "I Like It" he is one of fourteen writers, so his authorship reads as a Medellin workshop he anchors rather than a solo pen.
The Story
J Balvin is a Colombian singer, songwriter and record producer, born José Álvaro Osorio Balvín in Medellín in 1985. He began releasing music in 2004, signed to EMI Colombia in 2009, and broke through internationally in 2014 with "6 AM" featuring Farruko. He has sold 35 million records worldwide and holds eleven Billboard Latin Music Awards, six Latin Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards and seven Latin American Music Awards, along with four Grammy nominations. Guinness World Records has described him as a leader of a second-generation reggaeton revolution, and he was the first Latino to headline Coachella, Tomorrowland and Lollapalooza. His records stay almost entirely in Spanish even when the guest list does not, and he works inside the collaborative writing model that reggaeton runs on, where a track carries several writers and producers rather than one.

Frequently Asked Questions J Balvin
Does J Balvin write his own songs?
Yes, and his name turns up on nearly everything he puts out, though almost never by itself. All ten tracks on Colores list him as a writer alongside Alejandro Ramirez, the Medellin producer who works as Sky Rompiendo. On Vibras he is the one name that appears on all fourteen songs while Marco Masis (Tainy), Ramirez, Justin Quiles and Jesus Manuel Nieves Cortes rotate through the rest of the credit. BMI named him Contemporary Latin Songwriter of the Year in 2018, and the Billboard Latin Music Awards have nominated him for Songwriter of the Year.
Who wrote "Mi Gente"?
The credit goes to Jose Osorio, Willy William, Adam Assad, Andres David Restrepo and Mohombi Nzasi Moupondo. Willy William produced it with Phil Greiss. The 2017 remix added Terius Nash and Beyonce to the writing credit, with Beyonce also taking an additional production credit.
Who wrote "Ay Vamos"?
Jose Osorio, Rene Cano, Alejandro Patino and Alejandro Ramirez share the writing credit, and Sky, Bull Nene and Mosty produced it. The song won Best Urban Song at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2015.
Who wrote "Ginza"?
Jose Osorio, Alejandro Ramirez, Rene Cano, Alejandro Patino and Salomon Villada Hoyos, the Medellin singer who records as Feid. Ramirez and Patino produced it.
Is J Balvin credited as a writer on "I Like It"?
Yes. Jose Osorio is one of fourteen writers on the Cardi B single, a list that also carries Belcalis Almanzar, Benito Martinez, Tony Pabon, Marcos Masis and Jesus Nieves. J. White Did It, Tainy, Craig Kallman and Invincible produced it. The track gave Balvin his first number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Who wrote "Con Altura"?
Rosalia Vila, Jose Osorio, Pablo Diaz-Reixa, Adam Feeney, Teo Halm, Alejandro Ramirez and Aury Pineda. El Guincho, Frank Dukes, Halm, Sky Rompiendo and Rosalia produced it, and it won Best Urban Song at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards.
How many albums has J Balvin released?
Seven studio albums: La Familia in 2013, Energia in 2016, Vibras in 2018, Colores in 2020, Jose in 2021, Rayo in 2024 and Mixteip in 2025. Two more are collaborative albums, Oasis with Bad Bunny in 2019 and Omerta with Ryan Castro in 2026.
Who are J Balvin's regular collaborators and producers?
Alejandro Ramirez, who works as Sky Rompiendo, and Carlo Alejandro Patino, who works as Mosty, are the two Medellin writer-producers he has leaned on longest, and he name-drops both in his songs. Sky Rompiendo produced or vocal-produced all ten tracks on Colores. Tainy and Sky handled most of Vibras. Jose widened the bench to Skrillex, Taiko, Mosty, Diplo and others. On the artist side Bad Bunny is the closest partner, close enough that the pair made a whole album together, Oasis, in 2019.
Which J Balvin song is credited to him alone?
"6 AM", the breakthrough single with Farruko, lists Jose Alvaro Osorio Balvin as its sole songwriter. Sky and Mosty produced it, and it reached number three on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
How wide do the writing credits get on a J Balvin album?
It swings a lot. On Colores the credits run from two names on "Morado", Balvin and Sky Rompiendo, to eight on "Rosa". Jose goes wider still, with eight writers on "Que Locura" and nine on "Billetes de 100". Outside collaborations stretch furthest: "I Like It" carries fourteen.
