Cyndi Lauper's twelfth studio album, released June 3, 2016, through Sire Records and Rhino Records, a country covers album co-produced with veteran Nashville producer Tony Brown. The album features guest appearances from Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Jewel, and Alison Krauss, drawing on a cross-generational roster of country and Americana artists. None of the twelve tracks are Lauper originals; the repertoire spans classic country from Patsy Cline, Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard, Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, and Patsy Montana, among others. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Detour was released during a period of renewed visibility for Lauper following her Tony Award for Best Score for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots in 2013, completing a late-career trilogy of genre explorations alongside At Last and Memphis Blues.
