A Night to Remember is largely self-written, with Cyndi Lauper sharing credit on nine of its twelve tracks. She wrote with a deep bench of collaborators, including Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly on several songs and Diane Warren and Desmond Child on "Insecurious." The lead single "I Drove All Night" is a Steinberg-Kelly composition, while the rest of the album is built around Lauper's own writing.
Cyndi Lauper's third studio album, released October 16, 1989, co-produced by Lauper with Lennie Petze, Phil Ramone, and Eric Thorngren. The album features an intensive collaboration with Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg, who co-wrote six of the twelve tracks including "I Drove All Night," "My First Night Without You," "Unconditional Love," "Primitive," "Like a Cat," and "Heading West." Lauper co-wrote eight of the twelve tracks, her highest authorship total to that point in her career. Diane Warren contributed "Insecurious" as a co-write with Lauper and "I Don't Want to Be Your Friend" as a sole write, representing the peak of outside-songwriter involvement in her mid-career catalog. The album was certified gold in the United States and platinum in several European markets.
