Data Insight

Home at Last is a producer-led covers-and-writers record rather than a self-written one. Fred Mollin shaped the whole album and picked most of the material from outside songwriters, so names like Casey Beathard, Diane Warren, Tom Douglas, and Van Morrison dominate the credits. Billy Ray Cyrus holds a writing credit on only three songs: 'My Everything,' both takes of 'Ready, Set, Don't Go,' and 'Stand,' which he co-wrote with the Disney production duo Adam Watts and Andy Dodd. The album leans on standards and pop classics, from 'Brown Eyed Girl' to 'Over the Rainbow' to Carole King's 'You've Got a Friend,' which makes his own pen the exception here. The two guest spots, Miley Cyrus on the closing duet and Emily Osment on 'You've Got a Friend,' tie the record directly to the Hannah Montana moment that framed it.

Home at Last is the tenth studio album by Billy Ray Cyrus, released on July 24, 2007, and his only record for Walt Disney Records. It arrived at the height of the Hannah Montana era, when his daughter Miley's success carried his own career back into the spotlight. Fred Mollin produced the album and built it from a mix of new country-pop songs and familiar covers, backed by a large roster of Nashville and Los Angeles session players. Billy Ray co-wrote three tracks, including both versions of the lead single 'Ready, Set, Don't Go,' while outside writers such as Casey Beathard, Diane Warren, and Tom Douglas supplied the rest. The album closes with a duet version of 'Ready, Set, Don't Go' featuring Miley Cyrus, and track seven pairs him with Emily Osment on a cover of Carole King's 'You've Got a Friend.' It reached number 3 on Top Country Albums and number 20 on the Billboard 200, and was certified Gold by the RIAA.
