By the Numbers
The second album is where Cyrus steps forward as a writer. He co-wrote five of the eleven tracks, including the title song with his guitarist Terry Shelton and two he wrote alone, 'Throwin' Stones' and 'Right Face Wrong Time.' The outside material comes from Nashville writers, most notably Don Von Tress, who wrote 'Achy Breaky Heart' and here supplies 'Talk Some,' 'Ain't Your Dog No More,' and co-writes on two more. The three hit singles, 'In the Heart of a Woman,' 'Somebody New,' and 'Words by Heart,' were all written by outside teams rather than Cyrus himself, so the pattern is his own pen on the deep cuts and professional songwriters on the singles.
It Won't Be the Last is the second studio album by Billy Ray Cyrus, released June 22, 1993 on Mercury Records and recorded at Music Mill Recording Studio in Nashville. Following the runaway success of his debut, Cyrus took a larger hand in the songwriting, co-writing five of the album's eleven tracks. The record was produced and mixed by Joe Scaife and Jim Cotton, who had helmed his first album, and it keeps the same blend of arena-country and honky-tonk. The lead single 'In the Heart of a Woman' reached number three on the US country chart, followed by 'Somebody New' and 'Words by Heart.' The album was certified Platinum in the United States and sold over three million copies worldwide.
